1 〔定刻･期限･予定などよりあとになること〕 (a) delay; (a) postponement.

●月遅れ ⇒つきおくれ.

●台風のため今朝は各地で新聞の配達に遅れが出た. Delivery of this morning's paper was delayed in many areas because of the typhoon.

・着工の遅れが工事の計画全体に響いた. The delay in starting construction has had an adverse effect on [adversely affected] the entire project.

・登山では計画変更についての判断の遅れが命取りになることがある. In mountain climbing, failing to decide quickly on a change of plans can prove deadly.
